A portrait story about a brother and sister…
Collaborating with the children I photograph is one of the things I enjoy most about being a photographer. There is nothing quite like fully going with the flow. It might be a suggested activity or a spontaneous outfit change - I love it when kids take the lead.
Taking this approach is what led me to the idea of Portrait Stories. It’s an opportunity to create personal work that explores childhood in a way that is largely out of my control. Spending a decent chunk of time together and letting things evolve naturally creates a wonderful body of images that tell a bigger part of their story. We capture a world of expressions and moments because we let the chaos rule and it’s so much more fun for the kids and for me!
I find that when they’re left to fully inhabit their own environment it brings an openness which in turn empowers them to share things with me as and when they feel comfortable.

Made With Love
The latest in my series of Portrait Stories. A recent collaboration with a girl named Ada…
Last Autumn I collaborated with Ada and we made this little series of images using the costumes her Nana created for her during the first lockdown.
We ended up making a beautiful photo book with the images. It’s a celebration of handcrafting and recycling and, above all, playing.

Facebook Portal
New work with AMV BBDO and the most wonderful team.
I’m very happy to be able to show some new work that we made recently with AMVBBDO for Facebook Portal. It’s been a very quiet time but this lovely brief came along at the end of the summer and we were lucky to work with a brilliant team of people.
We were asked to cast real families, which I always love, to celebrate the bond between grandparents and grandchildren. Shot on location in London, September 2021.
Cambridge Children’s Hospital Cont…
A look at the wonderful book produced by EveryFriday to raise funds for the new hospital.
This wonderful book arrived the other day. It’s so rewarding to see images in print and makes me realise how rarely it happens these days.
I loved being involved with this project on so many levels. Beautifully created and produced by EveryFriday, this book is part of the campaign to raise funds for the new hospital.
The Dyer’s Daughter
A recent collaboration celebrating a shared love of tie-dye.
I had the pleasure of collaborating with Ann & Frances, the mother/daughter team behind The Dyer’s Daughter - a sustainable fashion label with a true love for hand tie-dying techniques.
They have recently expanded to include kids-wear and asked whether I would make some images to help launch their SS21 collection.
A lovely open brief meant I was able to hero the connection between the garments and the great outdoors (with a little bit of suburbia thrown in there too), nature being a main influence on the collections colourways.
We ended up with this series of photographs, reminiscent of film stills, with a sense of movement and adventure bringing life to the clothing. I really enjoyed reigniting my love of cinema for inspiration, something I’ve not had much time to nurture lately. A very welcome chance to play and create with a sense of purpose other than simply my own folio.

Back to School
“This is the real secret of life - to be completely engaged with what you are doing in the here and now. And instead of calling it work, realise it is play.” - Alan Watts.

Here’s to the children.
I took some photographs for my sons lovely school back in the Autumn of 2020. The second wave of the coronavirus pandemic meant that most kids returned to home learning for the first three months of 2021. Those who stayed in school missed their friends, those at home did too.
Whether your kids are in their first year, last year, or anywhere in between, they’ve had to roll with the punches. Here’s hoping things are steadier from here on in…
And here’s to the teachers too, of course.
